It's been an amazing trip with many interesting people and experiences.<br /><br /><br />Yesterday, as I mentioned, was a very rainy day and the Blue Ridge Parkway was a serious challenge due to the fog on the mountain so the gang gathered in the hotel lobby of the fabulous Stonewall Jackson Hotel in Staunton, VA to plan today's route avoiding the fogged in Parkway.<br /><br /><br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S_M3a7SaHfI/AAAAAAAAAZ8/hbctPtTI_GM/s1600/Day+21+Hahn+025.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5472778907916312050" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S_M3a7SaHfI/AAAAAAAAAZ8/hbctPtTI_GM/s200/Day+21+Hahn+025.JPG" /></a> Judy Buckley, Bennett Shuldman and Margaret Jacobsen get down to planning our route.<br /><br /><div><br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S_M25zVqbYI/AAAAAAAAAZs/Sn4H_BVmGsg/s1600/Day+21+002.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5472778338846797186" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S_M25zVqbYI/AAAAAAAAAZs/Sn4H_BVmGsg/s200/Day+21+002.JPG" /></a> Charlotte Hahn found a new mascot for their car.<br /><br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S_M2tj_AYUI/AAAAAAAAAZk/zeydtQ3f-HY/s1600/Day+21+004.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5472778128566804802" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S_M2tj_AYUI/AAAAAAAAAZk/zeydtQ3f-HY/s200/Day+21+004.JPG" /></a> About break time on our route to Manassas we were near Culpeper, VA and we decided to investigate. A thriving downtown with lots of locally owned independent businesses.<br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S_M2iRPYElI/AAAAAAAAAZc/yoIFVBZlpPU/s1600/Day+21+005.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5472777934556631634" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S_M2iRPYElI/AAAAAAAAAZc/yoIFVBZlpPU/s200/Day+21+005.JPG" /></a>The ladies really enjoyed Pepperberries in Culpeper.<br /></div><div>After a rather confusing arrival at the Country Inn's and Suites in Manassas we found reservations promised but not available, room preferences not respected and a general "don't give a darn" attitude by the staff. We really like CI&S and have stayed in many during this tour, but this one is to be avoided if you are ever in the area.<br /></div><div>Morgan DC club members and enthusiasts Marline Riehl and Lee DeBrisch opened their home to us and with the help of other members of the MCCDC treated us to drinks and dinner to put a cap on our trip.<br /></div><br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S_M2W5PvX_I/AAAAAAAAAZU/jymM_zzRMy0/s1600/Day+21+013.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5472777739137146866" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S_M2W5PvX_I/AAAAAAAAAZU/jymM_zzRMy0/s200/Day+21+013.JPG" /></a> With Morgan's aplenty parked on the lawn we enjoyed their hospitality.<br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S_M2KEH018I/AAAAAAAAAZM/mxtyPBCnI24/s1600/Day+21+006.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5472777518718441410" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S_M2KEH018I/AAAAAAAAAZM/mxtyPBCnI24/s200/Day+21+006.JPG" /></a>Entering through the garage, the MCCDC was having a clearance sale on their regalia and Morgan embroidered clothing items.... half price. We all spent too much on new denim shirts, jackets, pins, buttons, posters and even umbrellas.<br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S_M1-3W1GUI/AAAAAAAAAZE/o6Io-oDLAbg/s1600/Day+21+007.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5472777326313150786" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S_M1-3W1GUI/AAAAAAAAAZE/o6Io-oDLAbg/s200/Day+21+007.JPG" /></a>Inside, Marline was cooking and dishing up stuff for our feast.<br /><br /><div></div><br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S_M1z-RU4QI/AAAAAAAAAY8/fYiI-71FUeI/s1600/Day+21+011.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5472777139190554882" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S_M1z-RU4QI/AAAAAAAAAY8/fYiI-71FUeI/s200/Day+21+011.JPG" /></a> The gang gathered and soon the room grew quieter as everyone enjoyed the cuts of beef, BBQ chicken, salad, potato salad etc., etc. Great home cooking after three weeks of restaurant food. The early morning hours coupled with the constant motion of the events is starting to wear on people. Actually, we woke up this morning to a steady rain which made everyone kind of grouchy. But, we were underway by 8 after the usual morning hotel breakfast. Because of the rain we decided to skip part of the Blue Ridge and take a faster route. We had a special lunch planned so we had a deadline 5 hours down the road.<br /><br />Our route took us on 2 lane highways for a bit, then up onto the Blue Ridge for 30 very foggy miles. Then we dropped down the mountain in an exciting twisty ride through the fog to Route 11 in <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_3" class="blsp-spelling-error">Buckhannon</span> and on to <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_4" class="blsp-spelling-error">Raphine</span>, VA, home of Joe and Sharon <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_5" class="blsp-spelling-error">Topinka</span>, a Morgan enthusiast who owns several of our unique cars.<br /><br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S_Hs_08Zd_I/AAAAAAAAAYc/XXH1p4feXws/s1600/Day+20+002.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5472415603519748082" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S_Hs_08Zd_I/AAAAAAAAAYc/XXH1p4feXws/s200/Day+20+002.JPG" /></a>He greeted us at his lovely home deep in the rural foot hills of the Virginia <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_6" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">Appalachians</span>. <div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S_HsvkgxAoI/AAAAAAAAAYU/I5BBrochgCs/s1600/Day+20+003.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5472415324230976130" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S_HsvkgxAoI/AAAAAAAAAYU/I5BBrochgCs/s200/Day+20+003.JPG" /></a> We parked in front of his workshop and car barn.<br /><br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S_Hsf0u-grI/AAAAAAAAAYM/G5arI2UClcg/s1600/Day+20+004.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5472415053707641522" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S_Hsf0u-grI/AAAAAAAAAYM/G5arI2UClcg/s200/Day+20+004.JPG" /></a> After introductions the guys, and some of the gals, wandered out to the garage to check out 3 delightful Morgans. This gently winding, tree-lined road through scenic mountains was created in the depression days of the 1930's. This is the nations first rural Parkway. Standards for road design and engineering were pioneered here. As the nation's longest Parkway it stretches 469 miles to connect the Shenandoah National Park in Virginia with the Great Smokey Mountains National Park in North Carolina.</div><div><br />Bikers, hikers, campers and drivers share this park as both a place to visit and to see. It is also a very long driving day with almost 300 miles planned, and several optional routes.<br /><br /><br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-3qEBj5icI/AAAAAAAAATU/FBX9mkdB6bc/s1600/Day+17+002.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5471286477184403906" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-3qEBj5icI/AAAAAAAAATU/FBX9mkdB6bc/s200/Day+17+002.JPG" /></a>Our gang got going before 7. Once on I-40 enroute to Knoxville we noticed many deep cuts in the rocky ground. If its like this all around this area I wonder how the farms cope.<br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-3p7ctL2WI/AAAAAAAAATM/5EGd7GL74Co/s1600/Day+17+004.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5471286329852287330" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-3p7ctL2WI/AAAAAAAAATM/5EGd7GL74Co/s200/Day+17+004.JPG" /></a> It has become routine that 90 minutes into the run we need to stop to stretch and maybe get a bite to eat. We got to Monterey, TN at the appointed time and discovered the Cup and Saucer restaurant, a cute little home owned and operated diner. Great eggs, toast and coffee!<br /></div><br /><div>Our obvious demeaner and clothing labeled us as visitors to this little community. A chap there remarked after he finished his breakfast that he appreciated our stopping by. I asked if he was they mayor to which he replied that "no, he was the president of the Chamber of Commerce".<br /><br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-3pwbBxq3I/AAAAAAAAATE/QDIlTFH2wd0/s1600/Day+17+006.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5471286140423220082" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-3pwbBxq3I/AAAAAAAAATE/QDIlTFH2wd0/s200/Day+17+006.JPG" /></a>Ken Hall, it turned was the owner of a minor league professional football team called the Tennessee Central Express, named Ken Hall. Knowing we were just passing throught he pointed out a monument just down the street marking the boundry between two different Cherokee nations. The monument held the original marker stone the indians used and was inscribed with the following:<br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-3pn-tQdPI/AAAAAAAAAS8/_pqJlSulwxY/s1600/Day+17+005.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5471285995382011122" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-3pn-tQdPI/AAAAAAAAAS8/_pqJlSulwxY/s200/Day+17+005.JPG" /></a> Every town has a bit of history, and this is significant to the history of Monterey, TN.<br /><br /><br />We have mentioned Karen Thompson and Sue Dummermuth who are driving the Pub Crawl in Karen's late husband's 1961 +4. Karen's brother in law, and Sue's brother heard we were planning to drive near his home in Knoxville, so he invited us all to lunch at the Knoxville Boat Club.<br /></div><br /><div><br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-3pQts1tCI/AAAAAAAAAS0/BLKa6Mz_x1s/s1600/Day+17+011.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5471285595679863842" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-3pQts1tCI/AAAAAAAAAS0/BLKa6Mz_x1s/s200/Day+17+011.JPG" /></a> Jim and his wife Ginger, along with others from the boat club offered a warm welcome for the Pub Crawlers along with a delicious lunch of BBQ pork and chicken, and home made desserts.<br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-3oZSUhq2I/AAAAAAAAASc/J_DTpqyZCdc/s1600/Day+17+014.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5471284643437325154" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-3oZSUhq2I/AAAAAAAAASc/J_DTpqyZCdc/s200/Day+17+014.JPG" /></a>Here's Myron Koenig, Ginger Thompson, Sum Dummermuth, Jim Thompspon and Karen Thompson. It took us two days to get from Ohio to Annapolis to begin the crawl. We should be home in a week. The time is going so quickly.<br /><br />Last night we enjoyed a fine Italian dinner at a restaurant next to the hotel in Tupelo. The owner came out while we were finishing our desert and played us a tune or two on his concertina. Lots of fun.<br /><br /><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-yPWK-Ly_I/AAAAAAAAAR0/L6LVHgrvSfk/s1600/Day+16+001.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5470905258413378546" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-yPWK-Ly_I/AAAAAAAAAR0/L6LVHgrvSfk/s200/Day+16+001.JPG" /></a><br />Morning departure was a tad later (7:50am) since we had fewer miles today, and a gas fill up was the first order of business.<br /><br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-yPVPiDZ0I/AAAAAAAAARs/epLuEt9AlJE/s1600/Day+16+003.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5470905242457696066" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-yPVPiDZ0I/AAAAAAAAARs/epLuEt9AlJE/s200/Day+16+003.JPG" /></a> Then back on the "Trace"<br /><br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-yPU8b22WI/AAAAAAAAARk/v5Iq_4DLmkU/s1600/Day+16+004.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5470905237331433826" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-yPU8b22WI/AAAAAAAAARk/v5Iq_4DLmkU/s200/Day+16+004.JPG" /></a><br />Alan Marsh, aka DC Bubba positioned his 2003 Plus 8 to commemorate this motoring milestone for him and his car.<br /><br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-yO6dhsRVI/AAAAAAAAARc/OR1aYx5xJbc/s1600/Day+16+Marsh+024.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 150px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 200px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5470904782357808466" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-yO6dhsRVI/AAAAAAAAARc/OR1aYx5xJbc/s200/Day+16+Marsh+024.JPG" /></a> He tells me that May 12 and 13th, 2010 he drove the entire length of the Natchez Trace in the same car that, in 2004 he drove from John O'Groats to Land's End in Scotland, UK. His mascot, Dudley DoDo rode along on both trips.<br /><br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-yOp4CjZ9I/AAAAAAAAARU/dQymgsRzTAY/s1600/Day+16+005.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5470904497417185234" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-yOp4CjZ9I/AAAAAAAAARU/dQymgsRzTAY/s200/Day+16+005.JPG" /></a> On the Trace....smooth road, steady speed, little traffic, nice views, very green. We noted corn crops knee high by the 12th of May. Soy beans were well underway. And, the further north we got the more fields we saw that were fitted out, ready for the growing season. In our home state of Ohio knee high by the 4th of July is the mantra. We must be 6 weeks later in Ohio.<br /><br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-yOpduiSoI/AAAAAAAAARM/rhk2552-VAE/s1600/Day+16+008.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5470904490353904258" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-yOpduiSoI/AAAAAAAAARM/rhk2552-VAE/s200/Day+16+008.JPG" /></a>Meriwether Lewis, of the Lewis and Clark expedition died on the Trace in 1809. We found it to be a delightful town and the Antebellum mansions inspiring. You will recall our dinner last night at Monmouth Hall. Some of the Pub Crawlers found another building quite close and wondered if we would have to stay there next time. Charlie...what do you think? One night, or two?<br /><br /><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-tdgu6O2lI/AAAAAAAAAQc/wemOkhhtLxA/s1600/Day+15+Kukuk.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5470568989301070418" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-tdgu6O2lI/AAAAAAAAAQc/wemOkhhtLxA/s200/Day+15+Kukuk.JPG" /></a><br />We knew it was a long drive today so we started early. <br /><div>Gassed up and off we went, headed for the Natchez Trace. Virtually at the entrance to the Trace we had a breakdown. Karen Thompson and Sue Dummermuth's car lost power. Reg was ahead, turned around and came back to offer assistance. The Texas gang was following along with us too. <a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-tdgH-U3AI/AAAAAAAAAQU/Q1yJazT5yS0/s1600/Day+15+001.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5470568978849258498" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-tdgH-U3AI/AAAAAAAAAQU/Q1yJazT5yS0/s200/Day+15+001.JPG" /></a> Seems the trouble was a stuck float in the fueling system. Reg diagnosed the problem, rendered some old fashioned ingenuity and repaired it. Reg is a handy guy to have on these trips. 3-cheers.<br /><br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-tdfpKQA4I/AAAAAAAAAQM/6BaUjgJeRCo/s1600/Day+15+005.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5470568970577773442" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-tdfpKQA4I/AAAAAAAAAQM/6BaUjgJeRCo/s200/Day+15+005.JPG" /></a>The Natchez Trace is a beautiful two lane road with no commercial traffic (no trucks), a strictly enforced 50 mph speed limit and limited resources. It is thought giant sloth and bison beat the path more than 10,000 years ago. There is evidence mound builders traveled the route 2000 years ago. The heaviest use though, comes from 1785 to 1825 when "boatmen" returned north from Markets in Natchez and New Orleans. These boatmen brought their wares down the mighty Mississippi with the help of its strong currents, sold their goods and their boats and walked home to Tennessee.<br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-ta3-Pni0I/AAAAAAAAAQE/mdABD-N-LfU/s1600/Day+15+Buckley+Pics+395.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5470566090019408706" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-ta3-Pni0I/AAAAAAAAAQE/mdABD-N-LfU/s200/Day+15+Buckley+Pics+395.JPG" /></a>Along the way this morning the Buckley's encountered some cows along the route... the cows seemed to enjoy their unique little Morgan Roadster.<br /><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-tYK9eZNyI/AAAAAAAAAP8/VrfDXiloXgI/s1600/Day+15+Buckley+Pics+394.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5470563117695579938" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-tYK9eZNyI/AAAAAAAAAP8/VrfDXiloXgI/s200/Day+15+Buckley+Pics+394.JPG" /></a> The Natchez Trace route follows the original trace closely, but is somewhat different in places.<br /><br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-tYKkLM1DI/AAAAAAAAAP0/anePEIFhkV0/s1600/Day+15+Buckley+Pics+392.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 150px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 200px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5470563110904190002" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-tYKkLM1DI/AAAAAAAAAP0/anePEIFhkV0/s200/Day+15+Buckley+Pics+392.JPG" /></a>These pictures, taken by Judy and Pat Buckley tell some of the tale...<br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-tYJ0NyTeI/AAAAAAAAAPs/6GLtaPSo2AA/s1600/Day+15+Buckley+Pics+396.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5470563098030132706" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-tYJ0NyTeI/AAAAAAAAAPs/6GLtaPSo2AA/s200/Day+15+Buckley+Pics+396.JPG" /></a> <div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-tYJY1qJzI/AAAAAAAAAPk/8be499QiMi0/s1600/Day+15+Buckley+Pics+400.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5470563090681177906" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-tYJY1qJzI/AAAAAAAAAPk/8be499QiMi0/s200/Day+15+Buckley+Pics+400.JPG" /></a> </div><div>It was a long, hot day. Time was made for touring, car repairs and laundry, a lot of which was accomplished today.<br /><br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-oMA8rr0BI/AAAAAAAAAPU/iWN9cTDaNsM/s1600/Day+14+001.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5470197907823775762" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-oMA8rr0BI/AAAAAAAAAPU/iWN9cTDaNsM/s200/Day+14+001.JPG" /></a> Many of us went to the Visitors Center for an orientation to the city. Natchez is the county seat of Adams County. In the past visitors came by steamboat, now visitors come from all over the world, lured by the city's reputation for a unique collection of houses representing architecture of the long ago South. The houses represent the time when cotton was king and money flowed freely. The cotton is gone but tourists continue to visit.<br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-oMAcHRwcI/AAAAAAAAAPM/qiLGhvfP9yE/s1600/Day+14+004.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5470197899081138626" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-oMAcHRwcI/AAAAAAAAAPM/qiLGhvfP9yE/s200/Day+14+004.JPG" /></a> Stanton Hall is one of the larger mansions in Natchez. Built in 1857 for cotton magnate Frederick Stanton with no expense spared. Five levels, with 17 foot ceilings on the first floor. Stanton died in 1858 but his family remained there until 1894. The house was purchased by the <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">Pilgrimage</span> Garden Club in 1938 and is now an elegant and majestic setting for weddings and special events.<br /><br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-oMAMkeKYI/AAAAAAAAAPE/PiJTyuT0fiM/s1600/Day+14+008.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5470197894908619138" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-oMAMkeKYI/AAAAAAAAAPE/PiJTyuT0fiM/s200/Day+14+008.JPG" /></a> Magnolia Grill, where we had lunch, is "under the hill" on the waterfront, known in the 1800's as a region of debauchery, gambling and rough living. Now, it is quite respectable. The paddle boat dock is right across the street.<br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-oL_jwZmVI/AAAAAAAAAO8/sdhvpIhXT-w/s1600/Day+14+009.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5470197883952798034" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-oL_jwZmVI/AAAAAAAAAO8/sdhvpIhXT-w/s200/Day+14+009.JPG" /></a> Bob <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_1" class="blsp-spelling-error">McKenna's</span> car parts arrived in the overnight express from Morgan Spares. We set out to replace the clutch slave cylinder to see if the symptoms improved. Didn't help! So the gang gathered and the clutch master cylinder was replaced. So up and on the road by 7:30am, only to get snarled in Mobile traffic on very poorly labeled roads. Our attempt to go across a boulevard to a gas station was frustrated when the gas station had no gas. Then, no left turn was allowed out of the station. The GPS routed us around the issue, but it took us about 15 miles on side roads before we got to US98, the main road from Mobile to Natchez. Once on 98, things went pretty well.<br /><br /><br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-i92FK6wAI/AAAAAAAAAN8/hhSlzPUUxLY/s1600/Day+13+002.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5469830484240023554" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-i92FK6wAI/AAAAAAAAAN8/hhSlzPUUxLY/s200/Day+13+002.JPG" /></a> We pulled into Natchez about 2 and found the Grand Hotel to be quite grand. Today from Talahassee, FL to Mobile, Al. We were invited to a special lunch in Fairhope, AL organized by noted Morgan enthusiast Tony McLaughlin, who keeps the Morgan Registry here in the US.<br /><br />On the way we made a gas stop just off I-10. Interestingly, when 7 Morgans pull into a gas station at one time eyes are raised. The station attendent came out with a camera and took our picture. Probably to tell his boss. We sure do draw attention,.<br /><br /><br /><br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-dVIX7x3II/AAAAAAAAAMM/VXLc8Jk-vBo/s1600/Day+12+002.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5469433874816818306" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-dVIX7x3II/AAAAAAAAAMM/VXLc8Jk-vBo/s200/Day+12+002.JPG" /></a>It was a long slog aross Florida on a beautiful I-10. Smooth and scenic. When we discovered we had an extra hour due to the time change from eastern to central time we decided to take the scenic route through Fort Walton Beach and along the Gulf Coast to Mobile Bay and get off the Interstate.<br /><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-dUqKE89pI/AAAAAAAAAME/cTWE_JixRmo/s1600/Day+12+004.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5469433355701122706" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-dUqKE89pI/AAAAAAAAAME/cTWE_JixRmo/s200/Day+12+004.JPG" /></a> Once in Fairhope, Tony McLaughlin gave us warm greetings and invited us in to Wintzells Oyster House where we found a great selection of local seafood. Here Charlie Miller, our tour organizer chats with Bob McKenna and Tony McLaughlin. <br /><br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-dUFGRRnEI/AAAAAAAAAL8/EOmzlZ09VMo/s1600/Day+12+014.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5469432719023905858" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-dUFGRRnEI/AAAAAAAAAL8/EOmzlZ09VMo/s200/Day+12+014.JPG" /></a> Tony's beautiful yellow plus 8 Morgan was parked in front of the restaurant so we wouldn't drive by when we arrived from the south.<br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-dTjzwWDyI/AAAAAAAAAL0/9jelFh55YcA/s1600/Day+12+006.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5469432147118264098" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-dTjzwWDyI/AAAAAAAAAL0/9jelFh55YcA/s200/Day+12+006.JPG" /></a> A great lunch.<br /><div><br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-dSUtqBFqI/AAAAAAAAALk/9F5cjrLLKzQ/s1600/Day+12+012.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5469430788271445666" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-dSUtqBFqI/AAAAAAAAALk/9F5cjrLLKzQ/s200/Day+12+012.JPG" /></a></div><div></div><div>After lunch Tony led us on a nice tour of Fairhope.<br /><div><br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-dQY1jiiAI/AAAAAAAAALU/CrWkyEJPWxs/s1600/Day+12+015.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5469428660087982082" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-dQY1jiiAI/AAAAAAAAALU/CrWkyEJPWxs/s200/Day+12+015.JPG" /></a> The Fairhope beach on Mobile Bay<br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-dP31ykMVI/AAAAAAAAALM/KnQnZQ3nf8k/s1600/Day+12+016.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5469428093215322450" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-dP31ykMVI/AAAAAAAAALM/KnQnZQ3nf8k/s200/Day+12+016.JPG" /></a>A wonderful park at the beach in Fairhope.<br /><br /><br />Tony encouraged us to see the Battleship Alabama moored at Mobile Bay.<br /><br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-dOxDS37HI/AAAAAAAAALE/WEh8Nx6n64M/s1600/Day+12+023.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5469426877069782130" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-dOxDS37HI/AAAAAAAAALE/WEh8Nx6n64M/s200/Day+12+023.JPG" /></a><br />The Battleship is a teriffic monument to the Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen who served in WWII.</div><div></div><div>A huge battleship that served for five years from 1942 to 1972 in many battles around the world.<br /><br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-dNb-Rj1UI/AAAAAAAAAK8/oNX4deiYZE8/s1600/Day+12+027.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5469425415433213250" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-dNb-Rj1UI/AAAAAAAAAK8/oNX4deiYZE8/s200/Day+12+027.JPG" /></a> The grounds of the park adjacent to the Battleship Alabama inclued many artifacts from WWII.</div><div></div><div><br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-dM1IMNG0I/AAAAAAAAAK0/Z0V0b8xIbfU/s1600/Day+12+030.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5469424748080208706" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-dM1IMNG0I/AAAAAAAAAK0/Z0V0b8xIbfU/s200/Day+12+030.JPG" /></a> Thought this was a neat shot of Mog 8.</div><div> </div><div>When we reached our hotel for the night we found many staying here who are working on the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Breakfast, drive, lunch, drive, get to destination and go touring. But today was a bit different. We managed an early departure (7:30am) from St. Augustine and drove non-interstate highways.<br /><br />But first some housekeeping. Al (DC <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-error"><span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-error">Bubba</span></span>) Marsh has been teasing that our Southeast Morgan Pub Crawl was really the Dixie Pub Crawl, and he took this photo to prove it. His very nice 2003 Morgan Plus 8 sets off the billboards well don't you think?<br /><br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-X3xnUVJQI/AAAAAAAAAKs/JK5j_wVaHPc/s1600/Day+11+Marsh+001.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5469049754251240706" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-X3xnUVJQI/AAAAAAAAAKs/JK5j_wVaHPc/s200/Day+11+Marsh+001.JPG" /></a>Bruce Foster had a fuel pump failure yesterday. It turns out to be quite a story of good human deeds. Seems Bruce and Lydie were stranded alongside I-95 with a dead car. Other Pub Crawlers in attendance, but of little help except moral support. Along <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_1" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">happened a super chap named</span> Chris Brewer of Brunswick, GA who insisted on going home to get his trailer to fetch the Fosters and take them to a British Car repair shop in town. He did that, came back and took them to a <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_2" class="blsp-spelling-error"><span id="SPELLING_ERROR_1" class="blsp-spelling-error">NAPA</span></span> store to buy a new electric fuel pump, then on to the Foreign Car Center in Brunswick where two seasoned mechanics proceeded to wire and plumb in the new pump. Chris refused any compensation, so Bruce and Lydie took him to lunch while surgery was performed on the car. Good will, good folks and a wonderful outcome from what started out as a bummer day for the Fosters.<br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-X3ncC0qjI/AAAAAAAAAKk/AKWYtDS9xX4/s1600/Day+11+001.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5469049579426327090" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-X3ncC0qjI/AAAAAAAAAKk/AKWYtDS9xX4/s200/Day+11+001.JPG" /></a> Here's the new pump.<br /><br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-X3gUjDsHI/AAAAAAAAAKc/oUMQvNdGOzc/s1600/Day+11+006.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5469049457154961522" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-X3gUjDsHI/AAAAAAAAAKc/oUMQvNdGOzc/s200/Day+11+006.JPG" /></a> here's the Foster's neat 1966 Morgan Plus 4, happily on the road again.<br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-X3XOdFkqI/AAAAAAAAAKU/OZcRU3TnkIo/s1600/Day+11+002.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5469049300900483746" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-X3XOdFkqI/AAAAAAAAAKU/OZcRU3TnkIo/s200/Day+11+002.JPG" /></a> Saturday morning we were off right after the usual raisin bran and coffee breakfast at Country Inn and Suites. About two hours into the venture, nature calls so the GPS routed us to a nearby Starbucks in <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_3" class="blsp-spelling-error"><span id="SPELLING_ERROR_2" class="blsp-spelling-error">Gainesville</span></span>. Some cars were pulling out as early as 7am, but we didn't get our little four car packet underway until 7:30.<br /><br />We were about 3o miles down I-95 when traffic came to a rolling 3 mph, then a complete stop. We sat for 45 minutes hearing rumors from the truckers around us that there was an alligator in the road up ahead, and that the road construction had the 3 lane interstate reduced to one.<br /><br /><br /><br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-S6OmPORgI/AAAAAAAAAJ0/kJZsWahz-zw/s1600/Day+10+004.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5468700607479956994" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-S6OmPORgI/AAAAAAAAAJ0/kJZsWahz-zw/s200/Day+10+004.JPG" /></a><br />Once traffic got underway it seemed to move along fairly respectfully. Yesterday we left you with a comment about playing <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-error">Jenga</span> into the evening hours. Here's a photo of the game just before a 31 layer pile fell. Thought you'd like to see it.<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-NmArvwg6I/AAAAAAAAAIM/QIEIR87kI4M/s1600/Day+9+Savannah+002.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5468326534486983586" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-NmArvwg6I/AAAAAAAAAIM/QIEIR87kI4M/s200/Day+9+Savannah+002.JPG" /></a> This is a Stop Day today. No miles, just time to go sightseeing. All the cars are in good order so there are no urgent repairs being done. We all grouped together and hired a 15 passenger van to take us to town and back so we wouldn't have to find parking downtown. Once in town we took a tour <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_1" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">trolley</span> with on-off <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_2" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">accommodations</span>, so we could jump off and look at stuff and get back on the next <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_3" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">trolley</span>. The welcoming nature of these cars is enthusing. Today, for example, a local saw the cars at a gas station and started up a conversation with one of the drivers. He had many questions. When we fired up our engines to drive on he said loudly, "Man, they are bad to the bone."<br /><br />We feel like ambassadors of happiness sometimes. Grins, waves, horn honks and thumbs-up. Greetings all day along the highway and at stops. This bunch of unique cars bring many smiles.<br /><br />A great day today, having dried out after the heavy rains we had yesterday. Our trip to Beaufort saw clearing skies and warming temperatures. The cars seemed to be happy to dry out.<br /><br />Entering Beaufort, the first person one driver met was a former Mayor of the city. He happily directed him to locations of interest. Our group parked on Bay Street and found Blackstones Cafe just around the corner offering great breakfasts. Shortly after being seated one of the waitresses asked if we were the ones driving the Morgan's. When we confirmed her suspicion she revealed that the owner of the restaurant, a Roger Alley called her from his home. He had seen us drive into town. He wanted her to tell us that he used to race Morgans many years ago.<br />Small world.<br /><br />After breakfast we connected with others in the group who had arrived in their travelling clusters and wandered the shops of old downtown. A very unique town.<br /><br />then a 75 minute jaunt down to Hilton Head to Charlie Miller's home for midday hospitality and a tour of his unique and wonderfully decorated home featuring Morgan's and other car's he has owned, as well as a collection of 24oo beer glasses. A Low Country Boil was next, so we walked to the Hilton Head beach and walked the sand for a half mile or so to The Dunes Club.<br /><br />After eating more than any human should we bopped to Savanna, GA for an evening of Jenga and laundry.<br /><br />A collection of photos tells the story.... It started with a cloudy day and rain in the forecast. Hooding up in case of the rain... but wait, the rain won't happen until afternoon, so hooding down... but wait, it is easier to install the hooding in a controlled environment like a parking lot, than along side the road in the rain. So, hooding attached, but folded so it can be erected in moments while on the road.</div><br /><div></div><br /><br /><div>We took to the road about 8:45 for the three and a half hour jaunt to Charleston. Along the way we made a Starbucks stop, not having had any really coffee for several days. We fo<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-BxHqxh2dI/AAAAAAAAAEE/NgtrbBjH1zA/s1600/HahnPics+Day+7+014.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 200px; FLOAT: right; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5467494324182833618" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S-BxHqxh2dI/AAAAAAAAAEE/NgtrbBjH1zA/s200/HahnPics+Day+7+014.JPG" /></a>und out that Sue Dummermuth, Karen Thompson's navigator was a "Starbucks Virgin" as Char Hahn described it. She had NEVER been in a Starbucks store. And, truth be told she said she didn't really like the coffee. </div><br /><div></div><br /><br /><div>Our packet of cars gathered quickly after check-in at the hotel in Charleston and drove into town. We found a really neat little <a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S9-JK3yijYI/AAAAAAAAAD0/lgZ7HFtItA4/s1600/Day+6+008.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 200px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5467239292518698370" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S9-JK3yijYI/AAAAAAAAAD0/lgZ7HFtItA4/s200/Day+6+008.JPG" /></a>restaurant for a quick lunch, booked and took a narrated tour of the city, with historic architecture, quite a bit of maritime and civil war history highlighting the experience. Interesting city is Charleston.</div><br /><br /><br /><br /><div></div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S9-KR5TN-DI/AAAAAAAAAD8/AZ5Of2cJcYE/s1600/Day+6+012.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 200px; FLOAT: right; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5467240512694908978" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S9-KR5TN-DI/AAAAAAAAAD8/AZ5Of2cJcYE/s200/Day+6+012.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div>Then off to the Marketplace to see the wares of local craftsmen and women only to find it was closing time for them. So, up to the rooftop of the Pavilion hotel for a great view and adult beverages.</div><br /><div>Myron Koenig enjoyed the view from the rooftop.</div><br /><br /><br /><div>We needed to take a bus back to the Visitors Center parking facility. While waiting for the bus a local Morgan enthusiast, John Bigler was walking by, noticed our shirts and hats with Morgan regalia and inquired if we were on the Pub Crawl. He lives in Charleston and knows many of the crawl participants, but we being from Ohio weren't among them. We explained where he might find the others and off he went. Small world strikes again.</div><br /><br /><div></div><br /><div>Dinner at the Marina, then back to tuck in for the night. A day that didn't stop from beginning to end. And it never rained. But it might tonight. </div><br /><div></div><br /><div></div><br /><div></div>Gary K http://www.blogger.com/profile/08654600000425291637noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5051377855562512828.post-39745376831554612912010-05-02T18:02:00.000-07:002010-05-02T18:58:38.951-07:00Day 5 Ocracoke, NC to Wilmington, NC<div>Clouds and cool temperatures at 6 am welcomed us as we loaded our cars to be ready to leave by 6:30 for a date with the ferry to Cedar Island from Ocracoke, NC. Since the ferry company had told us all the slots were reserved for the entire day we must not miss our appointed reservations. I believe we all made it in time for a cool two and a half hour crossing.</div><br /><div><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5466844217888993602" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S94h2gGr8UI/AAAAAAAAADU/bakkjXFCGfA/s200/Day+5+001.JPG" /></div><div>During the ride Reg tended to installing an electrical socket to power his new GPS and while the rest of us kibitzed.<br /><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S94nKiDz8PI/AAAAAAAAADc/yN9p9ffiIco/s1600/Day+5+002.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 200px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5466850059569328370" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S94nKiDz8PI/AAAAAAAAADc/yN9p9ffiIco/s200/Day+5+002.JPG" /></a></div><div><div>Then he worked on Karen's car a bit, tightening one of the wing mirrors. </div><div></div><br /><div>By the time we reached Cedar Island the chores were done and it was beginning to warm up. For the uninitiated, Morgan's tend to be quite warm when driving due to limited air flow through the cockpit. Especially true in the higher powered Plus 8"s.</div><div></div><br /><div>So, we were driving along in the uncomfortable humidity and heat of North Carolina, route 24 to be exact, near Swansboro probably, when a young chap in a rather large SUV pulled up next to us at a traffic light and said: "I suppose you know you look awesome." referring to the little sports car, not the occupants we are sure. But it made us feel cooler, in both senses of the word. We agreeded that Morgan's looked awesome. </div><div></div><br /><div>Mog 8 led our three car packet to Surf City at Reg's suggestion, where we found a Crab Shack and chowed down on our first of hopefully many Grouper sandwiches. Others toured other sea side locations along the way to Wilmington. </div><div></div><br /><div>Arriving at the hotel in Wilmington, some of the gals headed for the laundry, others planned a trip to the Riverwalk.</div><br /><div></div><br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S94haa7gxqI/AAAAAAAAADE/9LQE8px_Nz0/s1600/Day+5+006.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5466843735463610018" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S94haa7gxqI/AAAAAAAAADE/9LQE8px_Nz0/s200/Day+5+006.JPG" /></a> Reg then proceeded to repair a faulty switch on his radiator and straightened a bent bumper on one of the cars that had an unfortunate bump mashing their front bumper a bit. That's why they are called "bumpers" I guess. Reg is becoming our "go-to" guy. We needed to stop to get some supplies, then gas, then some of the caravan missed a turn, and we ended up waiting for the group to regather. So the first 50 miles or so took a long time. Then we got our act together and really started to make good time. The weather remained very clear and warm... in fact it got downright hot during the day, until we got to the coast.<br /><br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S9zYxoGyBBI/AAAAAAAAACs/SssQ8pTy1Bc/s1600/Day+4+013.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 200px; FLOAT: right; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5466482394811991058" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S9zYxoGyBBI/AAAAAAAAACs/SssQ8pTy1Bc/s200/Day+4+013.JPG" /></a> Our plan was to avoid the interstates today and stick to reasonable side roads. The route took us around the "dismal swamp" and toward the coast and Kitty Hawk, home of the Wright Brothers first flight. Lunch at a brew pub then two cars split from the group and went to the Wright Brothers National Monument and visitors center, the rest headed south down the outer banks. </div><div><br />After learning all we could about the first 12 second flight and seeing exactly where it happened, we drove on, headed for Hatteras Lighthouse. </div><div></div><div><br />The Outer banks are sand dunes split by a highway and feature lots of blowing sand. Once past Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head we came to the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. About a hundred miles of very scenic driving, with considerable traffic, even though we are not "in season". </div><div></div><div><br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S9zYRj_KZGI/AAAAAAAAACk/ANWgEN_7SEg/s1600/Day+4+009.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 200px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5466481843950478434" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S9zYRj_KZGI/AAAAAAAAACk/ANWgEN_7SEg/s200/Day+4+009.JPG" /></a><br />We got to Cape Hatteras Light House just after the visitors center closed at 5. This became the sort of a day you always hope for when touring in a small roadster. The weather started cool, and cloudless in Annapolis. Our route to Williamsburg, once out of the city traffic of Annapolis, took us on some beautiful scenic roads - two lanes in each direction with mostly wooded medians, smooth surfaces, 60 mph speed limit and very little traffic. What a nice drive. If you ever get a chance to drive Virginia route 17 along the Rappahannock river, do it and stay off the interstates. The poppys in the median in bloom, the Locust trees blossoming and aromatic and the Azalea's were really colorful.<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S9tzRL8nhEI/AAAAAAAAACU/IEYAHxDJc6Q/s1600/Day+3+004.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5466089311846237250" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S9tzRL8nhEI/AAAAAAAAACU/IEYAHxDJc6Q/s200/Day+3+004.JPG" /></a> The Thompson team, dressed in their driving clothes, Sue in her Kentucky Derby hat, and Karen in her "stay on my head" hat. Once checked in Reg resolved an issue with the fan on his Plus 8, then we hit the road for the short hop to colonial Village gettting there just as all the restaurants closed for the afternoon. But the Bakery was open, so all was not lost.</div><br /><div></div><br /><div>Visiting the interesting shops and merchants in the Village, then an early dinner at the Blue Talon Bistro satisfied some of us, while the others went on to other establishments. Most were back to the hotel for a game of Farkle, then off to bed. I think everyone is happy tonight.</div><br /><div></div><br /><div></div></div>Gary K http://www.blogger.com/profile/08654600000425291637noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5051377855562512828.post-88466160028044762212010-04-29T13:16:00.000-07:002010-04-29T17:44:26.807-07:00Day 2 Frostburg, MD to Annapolis, MD<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S9olVzcZy5I/AAAAAAAAAB8/Zywra0XRdvk/s1600/Day+2+013.JPG"></a><br /><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S9olIWdkIGI/AAAAAAAAAB0/XvMjFDIgieg/s1600/Day+2+007.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 200px; FLOAT: right; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5465721923166281826" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S9olIWdkIGI/AAAAAAAAAB0/XvMjFDIgieg/s200/Day+2+007.JPG" /></a><br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S9ok1euT3JI/AAAAAAAAABs/A2-uN50nA5U/s1600/Day+2+003.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 200px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5465721598966488210" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S9ok1euT3JI/AAAAAAAAABs/A2-uN50nA5U/s200/Day+2+003.JPG" /></a><br />Another chilly morning met the 5 intrepid Ohio Morgan owners and our new friend from Parkersburg, WV. The Kneisley's, Miller's and Hahn's were first off about 8:45am, and the remaining three (Thompson, Kukuk's and Jordan's) pulled out a bit later. At our first gas stop we learned that the Thompson car suffered an ignition failure causing an immediate engine stop while moving 65 mph on I-68. Kukuk's turned around and came back to rescue her. Some investigation found a lose wire and she was soon on her way.<br /><br />We arrived in Annapolis about noon and after checking in took a scenic drive to downtown Annapolis, home of the Naval Academy. Interesting shopping along the waterfront, and lots of great looking restaruants. We could only choose one, so we had lunch on the veranda at Middletown Tavern. Mussles, Oysters and crab cakes. Yumm.<br /><br /><br /><br />Along the waterfront were a variety of interesting characters including Sneezer, the motorcycle riding dog and his master.<br /><br /><br />At 5 we took a shuttle bus to the Rams Head Brewpub for our kickoff dinner. New sweatsirts, hats and t-shirts had been distributed and we found a very convivial group. We pull out in the morning headed for Colonial Village and Williamsburg.Gary K http://www.blogger.com/profile/08654600000425291637noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5051377855562512828.post-47608857388712176992010-04-28T13:47:00.000-07:002010-04-28T14:14:05.800-07:00Day 1 - Ohio to Frostburg, MD<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S9ijbNHOHGI/AAAAAAAAABk/axGNaSQDono/s1600/Day+1+007.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 200px; FLOAT: right; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5465297835585838178" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S9ijbNHOHGI/AAAAAAAAABk/axGNaSQDono/s200/Day+1+007.JPG" /></a><br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S9iisZWLBHI/AAAAAAAAABc/C6U8sQsOTZk/s1600/Day+1+006.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 200px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5465297031415923826" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S9iisZWLBHI/AAAAAAAAABc/C6U8sQsOTZk/s200/Day+1+006.JPG" /></a><br />It was a dark and cloudy day... no, this is not a cheap novel, just a narrative of our trip which began with a very cold drive on the Ohio and Pennsy Turnpike to Somerset, PA, then a scenic hop south to Frostburg, MD. Shortly after we checked in to our hotel the rest of the Ohio gang arrived (from Cincinnati, Johnstown, and Parkersburg) having driven across route 50 from near Parkersburg, WV. They were all "top up". We were still shivering from our "top down and seven layers of clothes/jackets/raincoats. But we were all excited about the start of our adventure. The weather promises to be a bit warmer tomorrow, but still cool. The official trip begins tomorrow evening from Annapolis, MD when we meet up with many more Morgan's and have our "Kick-off" dinner. Our gang will go to dinner tonight at one of Frostburg's finest. :-)Gary K http://www.blogger.com/profile/08654600000425291637noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5051377855562512828.post-87038486893691259372010-04-25T11:27:00.000-07:002010-04-26T14:11:46.091-07:00Morgan Pub Crawl 2010<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S9SMsSpk7yI/AAAAAAAAAAU/Sh6fg0vO_DI/s1600/Logo.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 196px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5464146940455612194" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1GBRV4YKa_M/S9SMsSpk7yI/AAAAAAAAAAU/Sh6fg0vO_DI/s200/Logo.jpg" /></a> <div>SUNDAY APRIL 25, 2010: You may recall that in 2007 several Morgan enthusiasts led by noted Morgan traveller Charles Miller took a Pub Crawl through the northeast.
